Yeah, you're probably right and your points are solid. Maybe it can be said in Emma's favour that she didn't really have any bad day throughout the season, while Marianne was quite bad in a few mountain stages and ITT's, even though having less (road) competition days. Anyway, I have to admit that if I couldn't compare the 2013 season with the previous ones, it's likely I had picked Vos for the 'title'.
The TTT's don't have a great influence on those stats, they are more or less the same without. I can see your point, but I think it's half true. You're right that in the first half of the season Emma often looked (and probably was) stronger, even though Marianne was winning the races. That said, in my opinion, after her break after the Giro (in which she was also helped on her back), it has shifted back to Marianne being the stronger rider. The races they did together, Vargarda, Plouay, Toscana and worlds, Emma was brilliant, but Marianne was at her very best in all those races (just like Marianne/Rabo dominated the Trophee d'Or, where Bronzini was riding as well, who had taken those 6 stages 2 weeks earlier..). If you count the races where either of them where obviously stronger, I don't think the difference between them would be all too big. Neither do I think Emma is better at the harder races, they're both pretty comparable riders, it just depends on who is stronger on the day, you don't win the Giro twice by not being great at hard races.. That said, Marianne had two races where she was nowhere, like you said, Binda and Bira, there are reasons for that, but we won't count those. But still, surely winning more races and winning nearly all the big one day road races there are, makes up for two bad races?

Hi! Thanks for you answer. I didn't include TTT's for my stats, so that makes your numbers slightly different. Yeah, we can't make separate paragraphs here so it's a bit of a mess, but I was able to read your message anyway :) Let me say that my choice wasn't easy (I'm not totally sure about what I did yet), and a but subjective. I'm picking Emma not for her numbers, but because I consider that she would've finished ahead of Vos on many more races if the women's calendar would include harder races (more long climbs, more ITT's). When things got really hard (Bira, Binda, with long climbs and awful weather) the Swede was better. She was also stronger in other races like Flanders and Durango, but Vos ultimately won thanks to her amazing finishing speed. Let's say that I value her endurance higher than Marianne's technical skills and sprint. Of course that's debatable.

Hey Saul, Spider here.. I hope typing in English here is OK, my Spanish isn't very good :D I counted it all up, all podiums in races/stages/gc (TTT included, 4th stage/overall of Giro Toscana not counted as a non podium for obvious reasons, not counted as win/podium either) and the amount of times they failed to make the podium plus percentages:

Marianne:
1st places: 22
2nd places: 7
3rd places: 2
No podium: 12
Total: 43
On the podium: 72,09%
Win: 51.16%

Emma:

1st places: 10
2nd places: 16
3rd places: 17
No podium: 29
Total: 72
On the podium: 59,72%
Win: 13,89%

TTT's excluded (count up 2 for Marianne to include them), all races/stages/gc they did together:
Amount of times Marianne finished ahead of Emma: 18
Amount of times Emma finished ahead of Marianne: 6

In my opinion, the numbers are pretty clear. Marianne has a much higher number of wins, a much higher percentage of wins, a higher percentage of podiums (so is actually even more consistent then Emma is), and has beaten Emma way more times than the other way around, and won the biggest races. That said, Emma had a cracking season, in power and endurance I think Emma and Marianne are equal, Marianne wins it on technical abilities and her finishing power. Anyway, all of that is my opinion, maybe it's because I'm Dutch, maybe I look at numbers too much, but I thought you might want to see the numbers as well :)
